Barca’s Maxwell insists Messi is ‘incomparable’

Despite a noticeable drop in overall performance in international competition, Messi remains a top player who has nothing to prove.

This was the point being put across by Barcelona full-back Maxwell upon commenting on his teammate and the Barca star player.

According to Maxwell, Messi’s overall performance in football cements him as inarguably one of the most lethal players today.

His comments came after Argentina’s loss a few days ago in the South American 2014 World Cup qualifiers. The match ended with a 1-0 score, the only goal in the game being made by Fernando Mardaras of Venezuela.

The win gave Venezuela their first victory against Argentina.

Previous to that, however, Messi tallied one of the 4 goals that allowed Argentina to defeat Chile with a 4-1 victory in the World Cup qualifiers.

Messi supporters were also disappointed as the Barca player failed to bring Argentina to victory in the Copa America last summer.

‘I think he’s already proven his quality with both Barca and Argentina,’ Maxwell said of Messi, who is currently set to eclipse Laszlo Kubala’s record as the second-highest goal scorer in Barca’s 112-year history.

‘He has different teammates and they played a different game,’ said Maxwell of Messi’s performances in Barca, and in Argentina.  ‘You can’t compare the two, it’s another world, but I’m certain he’ll be triumphant with Argentina.’

Addressing claims of Messi being compared with Neymar, deemed to be the biggest rising star in football, Maxwell attested that his teammate was ‘incomparable.’

Barcelona’s star player was awarded the UEFA Best Player in Europe Award last August.

Despite his less-favourable performance on the international stage, Messi has shown near-lethal competitiveness in the La Liga.  As of this season’s opening the attacker has netted 8 goals in his 6 appearances.

The previous season he made 31 goals in 33 appearances; the season before that showed 34 goals in 35 appearances.

In Messi’s entire career with Barcelona since 2004, he has tallied a total of 127 goals after playing 174 games.

He has also received glowing praises from fellow teammates, with Xavi recently claiming that the striker is the world’s best player.

‘I have no doubts that Messi is the best footballer in the world and one of the greatest in history,’ Xavi told reporters.

‘We enjoy his play on and off the pitch and what he does is incredible.’

Xavi went on to describe Messi as ‘humble’, and ‘a reference point for Barcelona.’
