QUEENS Park Rangers got a “dream win’’ over Chelsea who lost their cool in a 0-1 defeat at Loftus Road in the Premier league on Sunday.
The Blues lost two players during the highly-physical west London derby on the way to the setback that caused them to fall six points behind leaders Manchester City who walloped holders Manchester United 6-1 at Old Trafford.
A 10th-minute penalty strike from forward Heidar Helguson following a foul from David Luiz proved to be the winning goal as the Hoops tallied their first win over the Blues in 16 years. The latter also tasted their second loss this season.
“To get three points against Chelsea is like a dream,’’ said QPR boss Neil Warnock, delighted after his side rose to 10th spot in the standings. ” Our boys did fantastically.’’
But it was the exact opposite as far as Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas was concerned.
The Portuguese mentor slammed referee Chris Foy for sending off two of his key players.
Defender Jose Bosingwa and striker Didier Drogba were banished from the pitch in the first half and the Blues ‘ plays were thrown in disarray the rest of the contest.
Bosingwa was shown by Foy a straight red card in the 33rd when he pulled back playmaker Shaun Wright-Phillips who was through on goal. Then four minutes before the break, Drogba was also given the marching papers for a nasty two-footed challenge on midfielder Adel Taarabt.
All told, seven Chelsea players were booked, prompting Villas-Boas to air his gripes on the officials.
The Portuguese said he was very disappointed with the performance of Foy, whom he described as “poor, very very poor.’’
Villas-Boas confronted Foy at the end of the match and said he didn’t care if the atter was okar or not.
“With nine players we kept our emotions very well. Chris and his team (of officials) conceded to the crowd and committed tremendous mistakes,’’ said a livid Villas-Boas.
Despite their predicament, the Blues pushed to search for the equaliser but could not get past the fine goalkeeping defence of an inspired Paddy Kenny
AUTHOR’S OPINION
OPINION: Villas-Boas should not have whined over their loss. Instead, he should have taken it in stride. Cry babies are very much despised in the league. The best thing for him and the Blues to think about now is to try to regroup for their next assignment.
Luis Suarez confirmed that he still dreams of one day playing in Spain, but reminds everyone that he’s still happy to play with Liverpool for the time being.
