Former Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti recently denied rumours suggesting that he is currently in the midst of proceedings that would see him manage French team Paris Saint-Germain.
In a recent interview with an Italian publication, Ancelotti assured that there is no truth to the rumour and that he is still intent on returning to the English Premier League.
‘Who said that?’ said Ancelotti, referring to the hearsay. ‘I want to stay in England.’
The 52-year old furthered, explaining that his current status as a free agent must be the reason for such rumours.
‘It is not a surprise that my name is linked to think because I am free,’ he explained. ‘But I can assure you, there is nothing concrete.’
Sky Sports reported that the former manager names the tight competition within the EPL as one of the main reasons for his intent to return.
‘I still believe the Premier League is the most beautiful league,’ he said. ‘It’s compelling because there are four or five teams that are fighting for the title.’
The idea of Ancelotti’s move to Ligue 1 is believed to have been fuelled by PSG sporting Director Leonardo who told French reporters that he had met with the Italian last week. Ancelotti and Leonardo have in the past worked in Inter Milan.
Agence France Presse reports however that according to Leonardo, ‘no direct proposal has ever been made’ to the Italian.
PSG are reportedly unhappy with current coach Antoine Kombouare. This is reportedly despite the fact that the club are currently leading the Ligue 1 table and have not been beaten in their last 12 matches.
Ancelotti had declared early this season his desire to return to the EPL, which he described as the perfect league for any manager.
The Italian manager’s career in the EPL came to a screeching halt at the end of last season as he was handed his walking papers immediately after his Blues lost to Everton 0-1 at Stamford Bridge last May.
The previous season, however, Ancelotti successfully made his mark on Roman Abramovich’s team with the Premier League title as well as the FA Cup silverware.
AUTHOR’S OPINION
Although joining the French league would satisfy Ancelotti’s apparent craving for football action, these rumours have to be either untrue or exaggerated. Perhaps nothing more than one of those rumours based on entirely flimsy information, and would eventually die out. There’s no moving Ancelotti: it’s the EPL or nothing as far as he’s concerned.
Luis Suarez confirmed that he still dreams of one day playing in Spain, but reminds everyone that he’s still happy to play with Liverpool for the time being.
