Wenger a ‘two-bob’, says Allen

A furious Tottenham coach Clive Allen publicly called Arsenal’s Arsene Wenger ‘two-bob’ – a foul Cockney slang word – following an on-field argument during the match which saw the Spurs beat the Gunners 2-1.

According to reports, Wenger approached and shook the hand of Spurs manager Harry Redknapp, as well as that of assistant Kevin Bond.  Afterwards, however, the Frenchman headed straight for the tunnel, allegedly ignoring Allen’s outstretched hand.

‘He refused to shake my hand,’ accused Allen. ‘He says he didn’t see or hear me.  But he’s two-bob, he is, two-bob.’

The incident led to a massive row at game’s end, eventually requiring the intervention of security officials.  Eyewitnesses described the exchange to have been foul and included swear words.

Allen denied the account, however, insisting that he had not thrown swear words at Wenger.

‘No I didn’t call him any dirty word,’ said Allen.

Wenger, however, was prepared to respond to accusations involving the allegedly ignored handshake.

‘I shook the hand of the manager and the assistant manager,’ he stated.  ‘How many hands do I have to shake? Is there a prescription?’

The Arsenal manager continued, accusing Allen of merely wanting to create a story around himself.

‘If the story of the game is Clive Allen, you must ask him.’

Reports suggest that Allen took Wenger’s ignoring of his offer for a handshake a snub, and Allen chased Wenger who was walking to the tunnel.

The event led to the argument that involved officers restraining a furious Allen.

Spurs’ Redknapp addressed the issue with a more diplomatic tone.

‘Arsene shook hands with me and I’m pleased with that,’ he said.  ‘I think Clive went to shake hands and he missed him.  He didn’t see him.’

‘But if he’s going to shake hands, either do it and mean it or don’t do it at all,’ he continued.  ‘If he doesn’t want to, he shouldn’t.’

The two individuals had butted heads in a previous match that ended in a 3-3 draw last April.

AUTHOR’S OPINION
Allen is being a tosser. So what if Wenger actually did intentionally ignore his handshake offer? Go to the press and whine about it? Oh yes, that’s class for you, mate. No room for childish behaviour here Allen. Best start looking for a spot in the Under-17 squad perhaps.
