ACM not selling players just to get Tevez

AC Milan’s strikers are not for sale in exchange for Carlos Tevez.

That was the message sent on Tuesday by club chief executive Adriano Galliani as he denied one of their top forwards will be ‘sacrificed’ so that they can acquire the controversial Manchester City player.

The Italian side have already sent City an offer for the Argentine but the Premier League side have yet to make their official stand.

Galliani said they are intent to snare the 27-year-old Tevez and made it clear that they are pursuing him because of the unavailability of Antonio Cassano and not due to their alleged desire to put one of their strikers on sale.

“If Tevez or another striker should arrive, it’s due to Cassano’s problem,’’ stressed Galliani.

AC Milan, Galliani added, are not keen to sell Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Robinho, or Alexandre Pato, the team’s top forwards.

Tevez’s agent, Kia Joorabchian, and City were reported to have held a meeting last Monday but details have yet to be announced.

Galliani added that unless Tevez signs for another club, AC Milan will wait until the last hour of the January 31 transfer window deadline.

The 29-year-old Cassano underwent a heart operation last month after being taken ill following Milan’s 3-2 win at Roma.

Cassano was diagnosed with a hole in his heart that needed surgery. He was ruled out until at least April, or maybe longer.

French side Paris Saint-Germain were reported to be interested too on Tevez but the Italian press claimed the Argentine prefers playing in the Serie A.

Milan have offered to take Tevez on loan until the end of the season with an option to acquire him for €23 million (about £19 million) next summer.

But City said they won’t consider a loan and won’t sell Tevez if their asking price is not met.

If they don’t land Tevez, Milan said they will try to hire Argentine forward Maxi Lopez of Catania.
