CARLOS Tevez is staying put in Manchester.
After failing to secure a move away from City in the summer transfer window as no club was able to meet the team’s asking price, the Argentine striker is likely to settle down at the club with his family.
Last month, Tevez said he wanted to leave City and relocate to a country where he could be reunited with wife Vanessa and their two daughters, who all returned to Argentina after encountering difficulty in adapting to British climate and culture.
Tevez had previously expressed his intention to move to Brazilian club Corinthians but negotiations did not push through.
On Thursday, his advisor Kia Joorabchian said that Tevez convinced his wife to join him in England. “If she (Tevez’s wife) manages to settle in hopefully in the next four or five months, maybe things will be fine.’’
Tevez, who was used as substitute in City’s 3-2 victory at Bolton Wanderers recently, was the Premier League’s joint top scorer last season. He helped City land third in the league and qualify for the Champions League.
The 27-year-old forward also wore the captain’s armband during the FA Cup final when City captured their first major crown since 1976. But his stint with Argentina during the Copa America has limited his role as starter for City.
Tevez now has to make a lot of grounds to find his way back to the starting lineup with the emergence of Edin Dzeko as leading attacking option. Dzeko has scored six goals for City in his first three league games. The team also signed Sergio Aguero last summer to bolster their forward line.
City boss Roberto Mancini said Tevez is not yet fit. “He has only worked for two weeks.’’
Tevez signed a five-year-contract with City in 2009 after moving from their cross-town rivals Manchester United. The transfer fee was reported to be a British-record 47 million pounds.
Luis Suarez confirmed that he still dreams of one day playing in Spain, but reminds everyone that he’s still happy to play with Liverpool for the time being.
