WONDER why Wayne Rooney is back to his old deadly form?
It’s because of his hair, according to his teammates as the Old Trafford locker room pulsates with vibrant talks about his resurgence.
Thanks to his newly-transplanted hair, Rooney is off to a flying start in the Premier League.
The Manchester United forward underwent a 35,000-euro (US$50,000) surgery to address his premature balding last summer and this, his pals speculate, could be the reason why he has found his rhythm back.
Rooney, 25, has been outstanding in the Red Devils’ pre-season games and his razor-sharp form extended into their first two Premier League fixtures. He scored in their opening 2-1 away win over West Bromwich Albion and then connected another – via a header – in their masterful 3-0 thrashing of Tottenham Hotspur at home.
Buoyed by his pals’ teasing that he is looking livelier now with his new looks, Rooney answered them back with inspired performance. He has added spring to his steps and his thirst for goals is certainly back.
With his return to peak shape, Rooney seems to have dispatched the struggles he had the last term, among them his sluggish stint in the World Cup and his slump at the start of the season.
Rooney made it known to everyone about his plan to cure his thinning pate. In fact, he posted pictures of his scalp on Twitter after the procedure he dubbed “Hair We Go.’’
And at the rate he is going, Rooney appears to create more impact for the Red Devils in their next outings.
Their triumph over the Spurs was the second consecutive for holders United, who are seeking an unprecedented 20th league crown. Their blazing start moved them to second place in the table, just behind rivals Manchester City on goal differential.
Incidentally, Rooney’s latest goal thrust his hair further into the limelight. With three minutes left, he found himself free in the penalty area and nodded in Ryan Giggs’ pin-point cross. An overjoyed Rooney then patted his head as he laughed and joked with teammates.
The transplant must have been perfect for his locks stayed unruffled after he completed the brace as the whole of Old Trafford erupted in joyous celebration.
Luis Suarez confirmed that he still dreams of one day playing in Spain, but reminds everyone that he’s still happy to play with Liverpool for the time being.
