CARLOS Tevez has been found guilty of breaching his contract with Manchester City and is set to face disciplinary proceedings.
On Wednesday, the beleaguered striker met with City officials who concluded after a two-week probe that the Argentine did refuse to come on as a substitute against Bayern Munich in their recent Champions League game.
Tevez countered he merely refused to warm up and there has been misunderstanding.
City boss Roberto Mancini announced after that loss at the Allianz Arena that Tevez’s career at the squad is “finished’’ after disobeying his orders.
The 27-year-old striker denied the claims but was eventually slapped a two-week suspension.
The club said it has reached a stage in their investigation that there is a case against Tevez over breaches of contract. The hearing will be convened shortly.
Meantime, Tevez, who was City’s top scorer last season with 24 goals in all competitions, has been required to report for training slated for Thursday.
Tevez has already apologised to fans and said: “Going forward I am ready to play when required and to fulfil my obligations.’’
As this developed, West Ham are reportedly monitoring the events transpiring at City and are said to be weighing options if they can sign Tevez on an emergency loan move until January.
Tevez will be informed of his punishment when he attends the hearing. He will most likely be meted with a British record fine in excess of 1 million pounds and suspension of between four and six weeks.
If Tevez appeals against the decision to the City aboard and fails, he can bring his case to the Premier League, a long process that could drag on well into the Christmas season.
Brazilian side Corinthians have expressed their desire to sign up Tevez but not with the 40-million pound he is said to be valued before.
Tevez was City captain last season and played a huge role in their FA Cup success in May, the club’s first major trophy since 1976.
AUTHOR’S OPINION
OPINION: Tevez’s worth as a player has diminished since he got enmeshed in controversies associated with his wantaway move from City. The club appear not bothered at all to lose him since there are others like Edin Dzeko and Sergio Aguero who can perform the attacking chores.
Luis Suarez confirmed that he still dreams of one day playing in Spain, but reminds everyone that he’s still happy to play with Liverpool for the time being.
