The race is on for the Premier League top spot, and Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea are in no way out of the running.
Currently in third place, the Spurs (going for a second straight win EPL win) trail runners-up Manchester United by 5 points, and top placers Manchester City by 7. Right behind them by a mere 2 points are Chelsea, who have gone 4 matches without defeat.
For Tottenham, 3 points would position them within striking distance of United, bringing them closer to contention for the prime table spot.
Although the distance is a bit greater for Chelsea, Andre Villas-boas’ men are out to prove that they are a force to be reckoned with. Also, their defeat of Manchester City must have whetted their appetites for another massive challenge against the EPL leaders, for the prime reward – the EPL title.
Although there is no blatant rivalry between the two teams, there is a common goal and only one prize. The chance to reach higher may be determined by this showdown.
Slightly Spurs
By Jamie McClough
Head to head, Spurs and Chelsea are at par with 2 wins each and sharing 1 draw in their last 5 encounters. Based on this, you’d think this match was up for grabs between two indistinguishable squads. You’d be wrong.
Any seasoned punter knows enough to consider where the match is to be held, and in this account, the Spurs are slightly ahead. At home they have 6 straight victories, and this run is yet to be beaten.
Then again, they are not facing a team from the bottom half of the table. They are facing Chelsea, and to be honest the Blues might be one of the few teams that can end that streak.
Chelsea though are not as impressive on the road. Although unbeaten for two games, they have only tallied 3 wins from 5 road matches.
The Blues are the type of competition that could give the Spurs a harder time than usual. But in this particular case, I say that the Spurs will overcome this adversity and, with their impressive home form, emerge victorious against Chelsea.
Wayne DeVille, as we have been told, is currently stretched out and sun-tanned on a tropical beach and will remain there until the start of January. We wish him a happy vacation, and remind him to go easy on the umbrella drinks.
