- Broken and hobbling from a string of misfortunes – foreseen or otherwise – Arsenal enter the lion’s den this weekend to battle current Premier League kings Manchester United.
- With Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri gone, Gervihno and Alex Song in suspension, Jack Wilshere injured, and their manager Arsene Wenger threatened with a touchline ban, and Arsenal is a gladiator rushing to battle with damaged armour.
- For this match, perhaps the Gunners’ top priority is not simply claiming victory; perhaps it is proving early on in the season that despite the detractors, they have more fight in them than everyone may believe.
- Or maybe it’s as simple as wanting to avoid 2 consecutive losses, and hopefully saving face after losing 0-2 to Liverpool in front of the home crowd.
- Whatever the motivation may be, the constant truth is that they are indeed in danger.
- Manchester United, on the other hand, have been riding on the coattails of glory. This comparatively young squad (averaging 23 years old) have come back fast and hard, winning their first 2 Premier League games. Ferguson is giddy and all a-twitter; for the other teams in the League, it’s a sign of trouble.
- The kings have come back to the Premier League and from their first 2 games, they are out to reassert their dominance. And with fresh new soldiers in their army, the energy is up and surging.
- The Red Devils are out for blood; and the Gunners might be out of ammo.
FEARLESS FORECAST
Another woe in Gunners’ way
By Wayne DeVille
- I’m putting this one in the bag for the Red Devils
- They are the Old Trafford bullies and nobody messes with them at their home turf.
- Rooney has found a talisman in his hair transplant and his appetite for goals is renewed. That is bad news for the Gunners. Frankly, they need to unlock the secret behind Wayne’s locks to make their visit worthwhile. If “Chicharito’’ joins the scoring fray, more headaches are coming Wenger’s way.
- So I’m listing down another 3 points the 3rd in a row early in this stage for United. As for the Gunners, welcome to your 2nd straight debacle!
A swift kill
By Jamie McClough
- I shall make this short and sweet: Man U will wipe Arsenal’s faces all over the bloody field. And at the end of regulation time, Old Trafford will be in joyful chaos as their Red Devils destroy and put away another team.
- Nothing personal against the Gunners, mind you. Good chaps, I’m assuming. They just do not have a chance. They’re wounded: no Wenger, no Gervinho, no Song, and no (more) Fabregas.
- Against the Man U squad, it won’t be quick and it won’t be painless. I suggest the Gunners simply hold on, man up, and wait till it’s over.
