The Reds have proven themselves to be legitimate competition for the Red Devils, with the two teams’ last 6 encounters seeing 3 Liverpool wins (including one in Old Trafford).
Steve Clarke, Liverpool’s first-team coach, has insisted that the upcoming match will be like any other, and will be treated as such.
This may be, if the international break had not torn Luis Suarez and Lucas Leiva away to South America until Thursday. Perhaps Liverpool’s chances for a victory this Saturday depend on the two players returning to Anfield ready and primed for the much-anticipated showdown.
A glimmer of hope, however, is in the rumour that the Reds are eager to get captain Steven Gerrard make his first start after a six-month absence. Should the skipper be fit enough to do so, the morale boost alone could prove a lethal weapon against Man United.
For Manchester United, victory further solidifies their rule over the entire league. For Liverpool, a win further suggests that they are indeed the dark horse of the EPL, ready to surge forward and take down the biggest adversaries.
United on the rebound By Wayne DeVille
Don’t let those results showing United falling to the Reds twice at Anfield deceive you.
Although it has been four years since the Red Devils last won as visitors over the Reds, they will shock Kenny Dalglish’s men right at their very own territory in their coming tiff.
This game will give United back a tag as a fearsome outfit on the road.
Ace Red Devil Wayne Rooney won’t let that recent blunder at Montenegro bother him in this game. He will be at his 100 per cent best leading the attack.
The Red Devils will be a tough customer for the Reds and at the end of the skirmish, it would be the visitors wearing happy faces.
Seeing Red by Jamie McClough
Allow me to be blatantly biased: all my hopes are on Liverpool for this one.
Manchester United terrorise with players like Wayne Rooney exploding onto the field and taking down whoever stands in their way. But their road performance does not absolutely impress, with 2 wins in 5 games.
I expect Liverpool to press on and defend their home field to the farthest extent possible, with the lethal Luis Suarez leading the way.
And there’s Andy Carroll, who to some has slowly come into form. Defeating Man United should hopefully prove incentive enough for him to break out and emerge in full force. As for Steven Gerrard, defeating Manchester United should give him the needed push to finally re-emerge as one of Liverpool’s greatest assets.
Forget what Luis Suarez said about Liverpool being out of the title race. I expect my Reds to come in full battle gear, hand Manchester United their second defeat at Anfield, and inch closer to the top of the table.
