ARSENAL   LIVERPOOL

Emirates Stadium

  • Arsenal and Liverpool prepare to face off at the Emirates Stadium for each one’s second game of the Premier League season.
  • Hobbling from the departure of Cesc Fabregas and made worse by the three-match ban on Alex Song and newly-signed Gervinho, Arsene Wenger’s boys are determined to show that they are still a force to be reckoned with.
  • Liverpool, who are also minus one man – Captain Steven Gerrard – will challenge the Gunners with a stronger midfield and the lethal Luis Suarez, all under the guidance of Kenny Dalglish.
  • For both sides, each coming off disappointing opening game draws, the quest is to prove that they are capable of survival despite whatever odds: absent key players, or a formidable opponent.
  • A win is imperative, for either side. However, save for another possible draw, one will claim victory while the other walks away in defeat.

FEARLESS FORECAST

Gun ‘em down Gunners!
By Wayne DeVille

  • The Gunners are not losing sleep over the departure of Cesc Fabregas. They are a locked and loaded fighting unit not scared of any other side so they will prove to be a huge mountain to climb for the Reds.
  • Never mind if Cesc has left them. The midfield will be taken care of by an equally dependable unit in Jack Wilshere, Alex Song and Aaron Ramsey. And yes, there’s Samir Nasri too. He is still with the Gunners after all.
  • Looking back, the Gunners have dispatched the Reds 3 times while limiting the latter to forcing just 2 melancholy draws.
  • I like Andy Carroll’s insistence that injuries are behind him now but the Gunners will simply remind him that healthy or not, he would not spell a threat for them.
  • I’m betting my hard-earned beer money for the Gunners!

Reds to Rise
By Jamie McClough

  • I will bravely say that the absence of Steven Gerrard from Liverpool is of no consequence. Not that Gerrard is no longer necessary for the Reds’ success. But King Kenny has created a team that, with a stronger midfield and the deadly Luis Suarez, will be a lethal force this season.
  • For this match, Arsenal has no chance. Song and Gervinho’s antics that got them sent off for three games did nothing but psychologically wound the Gunners as a team. I believe that, especially after their tie game with Sunderland, the Reds are now hungrier for a win.
  • They will devour Arsenal, and leave the entire team chewed up, laying in pieces, and soaked in spit.
