Game of the week

Manchester United vs. Blackburn Rovers

Sir Alex Ferguson’s men are a few goals away from returning to the top of the English Premier League and in effect ending the reign of rivals Manchester City.

Trailing only in goal difference, Manchester United find their opportunity to get back on top with a year-ender match with Blackburn Rovers.

For the Red Devils, this match presents a chance that cannot be squandered.  With a campaign that challenges them to both return to the top of the table and overtake their bitterest domestic rivals, this game is the very definition of a must-win.

There is, after everything else, also the challenge to avoid a potential defeat from a team that currently sits at 20th place.

The Rovers, however, are presented with the chance to perhaps be that underdog squad that toppled the big boys – an opportunity that any mediocre team would take advantage of.

There is a lot more riding for the Red Devils in this match.  But in some ways one might say the same thing for the Rovers, who are looking to gain some respect from the bottom of the table.

We can yammer on about the dramatic angle of this here fixture but I would like to stress what I consider to be fact: Manchester United will win this match.

To think that there is any question is just plain mental.

But for those still doubting, may I ask what else you need to know to convince you?  Is it that Manchester United have only lost once at home in their last 7 matches? That Blackburn have not won a game on the road since that friendly match last October?

Or is it that the Blackburn Rovers have not won at Old Trafford since 2005?

This is not something one spends much time with, so I will end it here with a home win prediction, and a piece of advice: let’s all get on with our lives, there’s no arguments left to make here.

Wayne DeVille, as we have been told, is currently stretched out and sun-tanned on a tropical beach and will remain there until the start of January.  We wish him a happy vacation, and remind him to go easy on the umbrella drinks.
