After leaving Chelsea defeated in their own Stamford Bridge, Liverpool return to their home of Anfield to prepare for battle with current league giants Manchester City.
Unbeaten in their last 7 Premier League games, the Reds will attempt the near-impossible and bring City’s perfect 9-game overall winning streak to a screeching, unexpected halt.
Another possible accomplishment for the hosts would be the end of their mediocre Premier League display at home, where they have settled for 3 straight draws.
Finally, as it stands, Liverpool are at 6th place, level in points with 3 other squads. A victory against City would lift them up to 25 points, placing them at 4th place and within striking distance of 3rd.
As for City, they hold a comfortable 5-point lead from second placers, intense rivals Manchester Untied – a team whose men promised to either catch up with City, or watch them inevitably topple off first place.
City must continue their winning streak in order to maintain their lead over the Red Devils; a loss opens the possibility of their lead being cut to 3 points.
This upcoming match places a number of different opportunities on the line; for the hosts, it is the chance to erase any questions of mediocrity and prove themselves to be one of the prime contenders in the EPL.
For the visitors, it is simple: it’s about keeping their superiority intact, and at the same time keeping all possible contenders at bay, at least a little longer.
Rise of the Red Army

As far as Liverpool is concerned, their win against Chelsea is arguably the single significant moment for the team as of lately. Although not completely mediocre, the Reds have failed to impress as much as they could, with their 3 draws in 5 games.
Which is possibly why their victory at Stamford Bridge is nothing short of glorious for a Liverpool supporter: aside from tallying a win, it was a victory against one of the Premier League’s top teams.
Next up for them is City, set in Anfield where all 3 Liverpool draws occurred. I would like to believe that the win against the Blues is exactly what the Reds need to recharge their lineup, recalibrate their morale and produce a more dominant squad of warriors.
No statistics for me this time: on pure faith, I pick Liverpool as the victors. City are the most dangerous team in the League right now, I admit. But I would like to think that with the hidden potential that dwells inside King Kenny’s squad, something could emerge to slay Manchester City and remind them that they are indeed mortals as well.
City still craving for the ‘3’
By Wayne DeVille
Will Liverpool be the first aside to deal Manchester City their first defeat in the Premier League this season?
After Newcastle United became the latest victim of City, the Reds are up next to try to halt the Eastlands side from nailing down another victory and an eight-straight triumph.
From the looks of it, Kenny Dalglish’s men are capable of halting City’s rampage because they will be clashing at Anfield where Liverpool blanked the latter 3-0 the last time they made a visit.
But City are riding high on their sizzling start of the season and looking unstoppable at the moment. Yes, even while playing away, Roberto Mancini’s men are running down opponents as if they are not sweating it out at all.
If the Reds were fired up by that away triumph over Chelsea, City were more recharged by handing the Magpies their first setback this season.
Both City and the Reds may be at equal footing as far their respective adrenaline rush is concerned but I give City the edge to pull through in their coming clash mainly because their hunger for the `3’ remains as intense as ever.
