Game of the week

Barcelona v Levante

Fallen from grace, Barcelona are currently struggling to reclaim the form that in the past had made them the team to beat in the Primera Division.  Additionally, as far as the league tables are concerned, their spot at second place suggests that at least in terms of form, the great Barcelona fall inferior to their bitter rivals Real Madrid.

It is with the objective to reassert their dominance that the Catalans face Levante at Camp Nou.  At this point another loss is something that Barcelona cannot afford should they want a chance to eclipse Real Madrid and reclaim the top spot.

As for Levante, who are within striking distance of Barca, winning this outfit not only stops Barcelona from further advancing, but elevates them in the La Liga table, giving them a better chance of even toppling Real Madrid.

This match presents a showdown between a team desperate to prove themselves to still be the greatest in the La Liga, and a team determined to show enough prowess to defeat one of the league’s most powerful forces.

A return to power

Despite their recent stumbles, Barca remain one of the La Liga’s powerhouses, and Levante should prove less than troublesome.

Guardiola’s men have trampled over Levante in their last 4 meetings, and there is no reason to think otherwise for this game.  Barcelona still boast of an exemplary home performance that since 2009 has seen only 1 defeat.

To think that they are in any danger against Levante, who have lost their last 2 away games, is rubbish.

Barcelona for the win, hands down.

A mystery to Levante
By Wayne DeVille

Barcelona got a wake-up call after that stunning defeat to Getafe.

They are now playing catch-up to fierce rivals Real Madrid and must go all out to take the full 3 points against Levante.

Pep Guardiola’s men do not want to let the fans at Camp Nou down and would not forgive themselves if they let this one slip away from their grasp right at their beloved home ground.

In their 5 past duels with Levante, Barca won 4 as Levante avoided being swept by forcing a draw at home.

Three of those victories by the Catalans were registered in front of their adoring followers and surely, they would want another win to have another rowdy celebration. As for Levante, they are facing the defending champions and an upset would mean enhancing their campaign this season.

Still, Camp Nou remains a mystery to Levante and they should do much, much better than settling for a standoff in order to steal a win.
