Arsenal v Wolverhampton Wanderers

A NOTE TO FOOTBALL FANS: This match has been re-scheduled. The football derby between the Gunners and Wolves has been moved to December 27, 2011-15.00 GMT, Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal get an opportunity to remind doubters that they have indeed gone past the birthing pains of this season and are now one of the league’s most intimidating sides.

Arsene Wenger has conceded the title itself, but the Gunners’ chances of etching their place in this season as one of the squads to look out for, grow as they prepare to meet the Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Although the squad have let go of EPL title hopes, it still stands as a fact that they are this close to landing at par with Chelsea.  Should the Gunners emerge victorious in this contest, they move equal in points to Chelsea, and perhaps re-energize their drive to go for the Premier League title.

But for the Wolves, the thought of a victory brings more attractive incentives.  Aside from having the pride of defeating one of the Premier League’s strongest forces, they get the chance to move closer towards mid-table, from standing two places away from the drop zone.

For Arsenal, it’s an opportunity to silence not just the doubts of the critics, but the ones that they have begun to settle with.  For the Wolves, it is a chance to further secure their survival and award them with the knowledge of having enough skill to beat Arsenal.

Gunners to go for broke
By Jamie McClough

Yes, we all love seeing the underdogs upturn expectations and bring down the big guys.  These are some of the most exciting and, in a way, heart-warming victories that could happen.  And on a bigger scale, this is one of the reasons why we watch football.

Too bad such an event will not be witnessed in this game, because the Wolves have no chance of defeating Arsenal.  It’s not even just their record together, which shows Arsenal with 12 wins in their last 14 games (the other 2 were draws).

It’s also the fact that Arsenal have a 7-game unbeaten streak at home, featuring 6 wins and 1 draw.  As for the Wolves’ it’s a 7-game winless streak on the road, featuring 6 defeats and 1 draw.

Really there’s not much else to say.  It’s a Gunners game and the Wolves are merely something in their way.  They will flick away the Wolves like they were flies on a windowsill.

Wayne DeVille, as we have been told, is currently stretched out and sun-tanned on a tropical beach and will remain there until the start of January. We wish him a happy vacation, and remind him to go easy on the umbrella drinks.
